"Be still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." (Ps. 46:10)

Dear Friend,

Trusting that all is well with you and your loved ones. We are fine, and enjoying as much of  the summer  that we can before winter sets in. Is it me, or did this year fly by just too quickly, more than usual? It is really getting scary now, life is going too fast!  I think a lot of it has to do with our busyness. We are in a fast paced society, where events are shot out to us quicker than we can say hello. We go from one thing to another so quickly that what we heard in the morning is old news by noon! I asked the Lord about this, and told Him that somehow there has to be an answer to this. The above Scripture is what He gave me.

He tells us first to "Be still."  Be honest now, when was the last time that you were still? Even if we are sitting around, we are not still. We have tons of information coming at us from our cell phones, our Ipads, our TV and radio. With a few minutes alone we may hear of missing people, catastrophes, murders, schools' closing because of police activity, fires, police activities, foreign events, etc. etc.  And .... we may hear about these things while trying to rest and have some lunch! Then at the end of the day, before going to sleep we hear even more news that is disturbing.

I agree, it is important to keep up with the news. We must know what is happening around the world, especially so that we can pray for those things. We are to pray first for our President, his Cabinet, the Senate, Supreme Court Judges, Governors, Mayors, all those in authority in our Nation. (1Tim. 2:1-6) Did you ever pray the news? If not, try it sometime. As you hear what is happening, pray immediately for God's intervention. It is Biblical, and it certainly would be great if we all do that instead of complaining about what is happening in the world.

Anyhow, back to being still... and the desire to see things move at a slower pace. There are steps we can take to live a calmer life. God has the answer, if we would only pay attention.

Let us take a moment, right now, to stand up and stretch. Yes, stretch... go ahead, I will wait.. Okay, didn't that feel good? Now on to what follows in Ps. 46:11. "The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge." Praise God! So, according to what God says, we should not fear, we should not worry about what will happen, we should not let ourselves get in the trap of being so concerned about what is going on that we neglect to enjoy the day that God has given us, and know that  everything is in His hands. He says to "be still" so let us take a deep breath and be still. He says that He will be exalted among the nations, so that tells us that God wins!

What is our part regarding this? Should we simply close our eyes to what is happening and say it will be ok? Or should we spend hours in deep prayer regarding it?

Both answers are correct. When we hear of something happening in our neighborhood, or the United States, or around the world, such as the Middle East and Israel, we must put on our full armor and pray serious Biblical prayers that reach the Throne Room of God!

But then, we are to release those prayers, knowing that God has heard, and begin praising Him for Who He is and all He has done and will do. Then, release it all to Him and begin worshiping the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Following this should be a time of quiet and peace knowing that our lives, and the lives of those prayed for are in His hands. Let go... release it all to Him and sing His praises.

After all that, take a deep breath again. If you are inside your home, look outside your window. Is it a beautiful sunny day out? Then take a walk and enjoy nature. Gaze at the trees and the grass, and the flowers. Look up at the sky and watch the clouds go by. I love doing that, and love to see what the cloud formations look like. One time they looked like angels with their wings outspread as they watched over us. Use your imagination and enjoy the moment. Remember what God says... He will be exalted in all the earth. He wins! No matter what happens, no matter what lies ahead, God wins and because of that, we win!  Begin taking time each day to ponder upon this fact. Whether we live or die, because God wins, we win too! We will have everlasting life with Him, with all the time in Heaven to rest and worship Him and thank Him for all He has done. God created us for His pleasure. His desire is to see us living a full life, fulfilling all that He has created for us to do. He wants to see us relaxed and happy, with no fear for the future because He will be exalted in the earth and He will be with us forever and ever and ever. He knows the beginning from the end, and has it all in His hands.

Bottom line....pray when we hear what is happening in our neighborhoods and in the world. Know that God has heard our prayer, and that He has it all in His hands. Do NOT worry. Begin to learn how to relax and enjoy the gifts that He has given us. Take each day as a gift from Him and make the most of every moment. Do not spend every minute having to know what is going on in the world. One news program is enough for the day. Close our day with thanksgiving and prayer and place ourselves in His hands. Enjoy the summer, the warm breezes and the slower pace.

Father, in Jesus mighty Name, I lift this reader up to You and place him or her into Your Loving arms. Father, help this person to relax and rest in You. Cover this person and all of his or her cares under the Blood that You shed on the Cross. Meet every need and give peace and joy and strength  into this life, for Your Glory. Amen!

In His Service,

Pastor Barbara
