“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.” (1 John4:7)

Dear Friend,

Trusting that all is well with you and your loved ones. Praise God, here we are in February already; can Spring be on its way? Let us hope so! I don’t know about you, but each year around this time, I am really ready for it!  One nice holiday that comes up in between is Valentine’s Day. I love this holiday, as it is a time when people think of those they love and feel free to express it in many ways. Wouldn’t it be so nice if every day could be like that? According to the Bible, this is just so important because those who choose to love others  show the world Who God is, and How He loves us. This is how we as Christians can help to spread the Word about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When we show love to others, even if they do not show it back, we are showing them how we, as followers of Christ, learn of Him and show Who He is by our actions. There is a song we used to sing, it went something like this. “And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our Love!”

We are one in the Spirit
We are one in the Lord
We are one in the Spirit
We are one in the Lord

1. And we pray that all unity may one day be restored
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love
Yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love

We will work with each other
We will work side by side
We will work with each other
We will work side by side

2.And we'll guard each man's dignity and save each man's pride
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love
Yeah, they'll know we are Christians by our love, our love
By our love, our love, by our love, our love, by our love, our love
By our love, by our love, by our love, our love
by our love

Songwriter -Peter Scholtes I have always loved this song because of it’s powerful words. Jesus was all about love. Everything He said and did had to do about love. He loved us so much that He suffered and died for us, even in our sin! He was ridiculed, spit upon, whipped and nailed to a Cross while we were still sinners, while we were far away from Him. Because of what He did for us when we accept Him as Lord and Savior, we have entrance to Heaven. Our sins are covered by His Blood and when the Father sees us, He sees His Son Jesus. Praise God!

So then, how should we live? There is so much going on in the world today that speaks of hatred. Isis is out to kill all Jews and Christians. Country against Country; marriages breaking up; parents and children against one another; Race against Race; neighbor against neighbor, and so on. Why???? Why can’t we all just love one another? Yes, the enemy of our soul is out to kill and destroy. There is evil in the world. But WHY do we give in to that? Why can’t we choose to be friends, to make our marriages work, to get along with parents and children, to get along with other countries? Unfortunately, it is mostly all about power. Everyone wants to be on top and everyone thinks their way is the only way. Well, if their way leads to love and peace, then yes it is the only way! Life would be so much easier and happier if we all did as Jesus did. He never argued. He never insisted that He was tops, even though He was! He served.. He washed feet...He fed the hungry, healed the sick, He loved everyone unconditionally. He is our example, and it is up to us if we want to follow it.

Everyday there is an opportunity to love someone. Every day there is an opportunity to serve, to help, to give, to show the love of Jesus to someone. If we ask for God to show us those opportunities, He will! We are in a grocery store and we see a woman putting aside food because she does not have the money. Do we have it? If so, what is stopping us from giving? A neighbor down the block just had surgery, and lives alone. Did we cook dinner tonight? Yes? Then bring some over to that person. A young mother just gave birth, and she has older children that need a ride to school. Are we going that way? Offer to take them! Simple things... but they mean a lot.

Pray for peace in your city. Pray for all to get along in love and peace. Everyone has hurts, be a peacemaker to help heal those hurts. Help those in need. Look around and give of yourself. Let us all band together and pray the words of the song; so that “People Will Know We Are Christians By Our Love.”

Father,in Jesus Precious Name, I give this reader to you, and I join with him or her to ask You to help us to be peacemakers. Help us to learn to truly love one another in Your Name. Show us those You want us to touch, and give us the wisdom to know how to do that. Father, fill our hearts with Your heart, and help us to reach our city for You. We pray now for our neighbors and all we come in contact with. We pray Salvation, healing, deliverance, and peace. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

In His Service,

Pastor Barbara
