January 2017

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

Dear Friend,

Happy New Year! Trusting that you had a peaceful holiday season, and that all is well with you and your loved ones. We are fine, and thanking God for this new year to see all that He will do! We are expectant, just as a woman who is pregnant and looking forward to seeing the baby she is carrying. She has hopes and dreams and great things that she wants to see happen in her baby’s life! It is all so exciting!

So, here we are dreaming of what this year will hold for us! What are you believing in faith for? What are you hoping to accomplish? In the Bible’s great chapter on faith, Hebrews 11, we see how the great fathers of our faith looked to the future, believing for God to hold true to His promises. Read about Abel, and Enoch, and Noah, and Abraham, and Sarah. They believed God and desired for the things they wanted to see happen, the promises that God gave them. They lived by faith choosing to take the hard road instead of having things easy in life. Moses chose to suffer for his faith in God, rather than having all the riches of Egypt. They all followed God’s direction, they walked by faith, and did their part... yet... they did not get to see the promise. They suffered, they wandered in deserts, and they followed what God had for them to accomplish His work on earth. God, however, provided for them to do this, and we learn by their example to never give up! It was their future generations who saw it! When we think of our children and grandchildren, this should be enough to press in and serve God, doing all that He calls us to do. The pleasures of this world will pass, but God’s Word and promises are forever. More than anything, it should be our desire to see our future generations follow Christ and live by His Word. In today’s world, this is not always easy, as our society seems to dictate how things should be. Children are being taught ungodly things in school, and are punished if they disagree. It is so important, more now than ever, to be active in our children’s lives and what they are being taught.

Our example is Christ. As Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith...the writer of Hebrews says ”Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2) He endured more than we ever could, and it was all for us so that we could be healed in spirit, soul, and body, and live forever with Him in heaven. He did not endure it just for His lifetime, He did it for those

who were alive, plus the future of the world! He is the Greatest example!

Although we are living in turbulent times, God wants to meet our needs, and right now! He wants us to be healthy, to be happy, to be prosperous, but above all, He wants you and me to follow His Son Jesus, to be an example to others of what He is like, so that they can also know Him as Lord and Savior. He wants to see all saved, and making it to heaven. He made the way, the way is through His Son Jesus Christ!

No matter what this year holds, let us join together to hold hands and pray for the salvation of every man, woman and child. Let us pray for those in authority so that we can live a peaceful life. We can gripe all we want, but that will not help all those in office in our land or in the world. It is only by prayer that they can find Christ, and live the life that He created them for with wisdom, and honesty, and love for all that is good, and of God. Our prayers, joined in one accord will make a difference!

For me, January is always a month to slow down a bit, take special time to be alone with the Lord, and praying for the new year. January is normally a cold and snowy month, so I like to enjoy that by spending more time indoors and reading my Bible while in prayer. There is so much to pray for! And I do need that special fellowship with Him! January is also a time to re-focus our lives, and seek His face as to where and what He has in mind for us. My team usually gets a little nervous with this because they don’t know what God and I will come up with next! It always means more work, reaching out in possibly impossible places! (Smile) But we all love it!

I urge you to please take this month as a time of respite. Spend time listening to worship music, reading your Bible, and talking to and listening to God. His desire is for you, and He wants your companionship. As this is done, allow Him to minister to you. Seek His voice, and see what direction He wants for your life. As we read about the great examples of faith that the Fathers had in Chapter 11 of Hebrews, let us follow suit and trust, no matter what we see or hear! Let us focus on the positive, believing God for the outcome. As we move and go about our daily life, let us not ever get discouraged by what we see or hear! Our fathers in the faith did not see the promise, but.... they pressed in believing, and encouraged themselves in the Lord. They believed that what God has promised, He will fulfill! Those examples of faith in what is not seen, but in the promise, should keep us going strong. If we do not see things in our lifetime, if God has promised something, it will happen! Praise God!! It is not our job to see to it that these promises come to pass; it is for us to pray, and then let God be God to fulfill them. Find a Scripture that you can meditate upon for the thing that is needed. Do you want your children saved? Isaiah 54:13,14 “And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” There is a Scripture promise for just about every situation we can face in life. Hold on to those promises in faith!

Father, in Jesus Name, I lift this reader up to You, and pray that this new year will be one of growing in You, of love, of faith, of health, of joy, of prosperity in all things. Let this reader know and feel Your Presence as you watch over and protect all that is of concern to him or her. Thank You Father!

God bless you!

In His Service,

Pastor Barbara
