“I will lift up my eyes to the hills, From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” (Ps. 121:1,2)

October 2018

Dear Friend,

Trusting that all is well with you and your loved ones. We are fine here, and preparing right now for the October 7 Day to Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem. Each year, on the first Sunday of October, churches from around the world take a few minutes out to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. I hope that you and  your church or prayer group will do this too!  This mandate is so important to God that it comes with a promise.

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you.” (PS. 122:6)

Therefore, if we want to prosper, we should pray for the peace of Jerusalem! It is so simple!  The Psalmist who cried out looking for help knew where his help came from! Psalms 120-135 were sung during annual feasts. Pilgrims would recite these Psalms as they journeyed to the temple in Jerusalem. They knew where to go for help! They knew that the Lord was on their side, and that He was their Defense. David sang “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,” Let Israel now say- “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, Then they would have swallowed us alive....” (Psalm 124:1-3) Such trust!! Where are we with our trust? Are we so afraid that we take it upon ourselves to either hold back or  make quick decisions when not necessary?  How do we deal with stress in todays world?

The thing that gets to me is that these people moved on ahead without wavering. They trusted the Lord so completely that they were willing to follow Him wherever He sent them. Ok, there were some who panicked or complained such as those who were with Moses, who were following him in the Desert. Even then, in the middle of complaints God met their needs!

The Bible speaks of hero’s such as David who pressed on with what he was called to do. David loved the Lord with all his heart, and God knew that. He was far from perfect, as all of us are, but his love for God was undeniable. His songs and deeds are throughout the pages in the Old Testament. In going back to stress, we can see how David dealt with it. He was in constant communication with God. His dependence upon Him was totally evident, even when crying out to Him, even when feeling so alone and under attack! Even when his life was in danger, he cried out to God with trust that He would pull him through. He cried out in desperation, but at the same time he dealt with his emotions by reminding himself that God was Faithful, and Trustworthy, and that He would not let him down!  He blessed the Lord for all that He had done which reminded him of His mercies and love for him. As a musician he sang his prayers to the Lord. Can you imagine God listening and smiling from heaven?  Can you imagine how God listens to you, and how He is smiling because you are placing your trust in Him? Your prayers, my prayers, are so very important to God! His love for you is endless. It is forever.

He will never stop loving you. He says in Jeremiah 31:3 “The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying; “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love.” He is speaking to the people in  Israel here, but this is also for us as Jesus makes it so clear that God loves us, and that nothing can separate us from His love. Paul speaks of this in Romans Chapter 8:38,39. “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Therefore, throughout all of the Old and New Testament we hear of God’s love for us!  He waits for us to call upon Him! He waits for you! Today, take time out to speak your heart to the one who loves you so very much!

Jesus is real, He is alive, and He wants to hear from you! He is so happy to bring your requests to His Father in heaven! “Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25) So, when we pray, when we talk to Him, He brings our requests to His Father in heaven. Just think for a minute about this! How exciting this is! When we present a request to the Father, in Jesus’ Name, He hears us! He hears that healing is needed, he hears that finances are needed, He hears that a marriage needs healing, He hears that a child needs to come home! He hears your prayers and He prays! He takes your place and intercedes for you! So your heavenly Father receives your requests and then acts on them! The answer may sometimes take time, but that is God’s timing. There are reasons for that. I have learned to wait on God. It took many years and some heartbreak to learn this, but it is for the best. Rushing into things can cause problems, and this is why we need to talk to Him, to take time alone with Him, read His Word in the Bible, attend church to hear the Word, and learn to be quiet and listen.

Let us learn from the heroes in the Bible! Let us learn to never give up, never be lazy even!  Let us take time out of our very busy days to be alone with God. Just sit in a comfortable place, or lay down, whichever you prefer, and talk to Him! Tell Him everything, and while you are at it, remind Him of the great things He has done for you that you appreciate. Praise Him!  You will touch the heart of God, and you will be released to open up your heart to Him.  He is your best Friend, and He loves you with an everlasting love. God bless you!

God bless you!
