September 2007

For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise... (1 Cor. 1:26,27

Dear Friend,

Trusting that all is well with you and your loved ones. I do hope that you enjoyed your summer, and that you had a chance to rest and catch up with yourself. It is unbelievable that September is here already! Didn't this year just begin? School starts again now, and new schedules begin for work. We are back into the busy mode!

So much is going on in the world too; we have to remember to always pray for the peace of Jerusalem as in Psalm 122:6. A Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; May they prosper who love you.  This is a mandate from God, and it comes with a promise! If we obey, God will prosper us. That is how much He loves Jerusalem! Next month on Sunday, Oct. 7th, churches from all over the world will be praying for the peace of Jerusalem at their regular church service. If your church is not involved, please tell your pastor about this, and he or she can either call me for information at (718) 745-1003, or visit the Day to Pray Website and sign up, www.daytopray.com.  There is no charge to do so, and it will let the world know that your church is supporting israel. On Oct. 7th pastors will lead their congregation in special prayer, and there are many wonderful options to make the service special. If you have a worship team, Israeli music can be incorporated; liturgical dancers can dance to the music; someone of a Jewish background can talk for a couple of minutes... be creative! Most of all, PRAY! If you have Direct TV, you can watch the actual Day to Pray ceremony in Israel, on the channel A God TV, number 365.  Robert Stearns of Eagles Wings Ministry birthed this event, and now both he and Jack Hayford direct it. May God bless their efforts!

Have you ever thought about how wonderful it would be to be used of God just as the Apostle Paul was? Just think of his life, how he was persecuting Christians, actually killing them, thinking that he was doing God's will! Then suddenly on his way to Damascus, his whole life changed! (Read Acts Chapter Nine) Talk about a radical conversion! Wow! People who heard Paul preach after that, could not believe that he was the same man! Isn't that so true of us, who have had a life changing experience with Christ? Suddenly our loved ones started questioning what happened to us,  remembering perhaps some of the things that we used to do! Yet Paul pressed in, and became a powerful Apostle, helping to change the course of history by the Word and his testimony.

When we read about this, we wonder how God can ever use us? We think... we can't preach, we can't travel all over to win the lost, we pray and don't always see the answers, so how can God use us? Did you know that Paul felt the same way? He was never so sure of himself that he felt like he had it all! He knew what we have to know, that it is not us, it is God within us who does the work! Paul says AI was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. (1 Cor. 2:3,4) Paul knew that of himself he could do nothing! He had to depend on God. It is ordained this way by God, because He will not share His glory with anyone.  "But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty...." (Acts 1:27) God is not looking for scholars who have only head knowledge; He is looking for those with heart knowledge! Yes, we must study to show ourselves approved, but we also have to have a heart knowledge of our Savior. Paul knew the Scriptures well, he was a scholar. But when he met Jesus personally, all that knowledge was for nothing. We can attend Bible College & Seminary, (and I graduated from a wonderful one, so I thoroughly agree that there is a need to be equipped in His Word!) but if we do not have that personal relationship with Jesus; if we do not spend time with Him, what is it all for? Where will it lead us?

God wants to use you and me to do the things He has called us to do. This may not mean traveling to foreign countries as a missionary, or standing on a platform praying for thousands of people, or having our own Christian TV program. It could... but most likely God simply wants to use us in our day to day living. Every day we are given opportunities to witness for Him. It may be in the place where we work, or in school, or while waiting for a subway train. It could be that we are to witness to the person sitting next to us on a plane. All it takes is to say "Yes Lord!" God may be calling you to intercession! Did you ever wake up in the middle of the night with the urgency to pray for someone, or something? God is looking for people who are willing to take on that job! Could there be anything more important than that? Prayer changes things, and your prayers could change the whole course of a persons life! This is powerful stuff I am talking about now! As an intercessor with the Watchmen Battalion, you receive a list of prayer requests every month. These are real people, with real needs, and when you pray for them things happen! Just read our monthly Praises! God is moving! Glory!

As the world prepares now for Autumn, and school, and new projects, let us prepare to become serious in our calling by God. You were created for a particular purpose. You are important in what God wants to accomplish here on earth. He loves you, and He knows your potential in the Kingdom. He wants more than you to see you fulfill your destiny. There was a guest speaker at our church recently, and he spoke about all the names in the genealogy in the Bible. You know, where it says someone begets someone, and that one begets someone. Well, just think for a minute. That is all that it says about that person, that he begot someone! And that was enough to get his name in the Bible! Just ordinary, everyday living. But each had a purpose, and out of the line of begots came Jesus!

In His Service,

Pastor Barbara
