”Blessed be the Lord my Rock; Who trains my hands for war;

And my fingers for battle.” (Psalm 144:1)

September, 2018

Dear Friend,

Trusting that all is well with you and your loved ones. We are fine here, and blessing God for all that He has done this past summer. We look forward to what He will do now in the Fall. Is it me, or is this year flying by just too quickly?

As we enter a new season, we know that we will be learning new things, and experiencing God’s protection and love as we move forward. In moving forward, we also know that life can bring challenges at times. We would love it if we had a peaceful, joyful day each day of our lives.... However, life is like that, with ups and downs. Thank God for God!! I do not know how anyone makes it in this world without Him! His love, and His care carry us through the good days and the bad, so that we can safely say “If it were not for God, I do not know where I would be!” I have found that many times in my life, and each time He has brought me through successfully. Praise Him!  Several times my life has been in danger, but because of Him, I am still here.

It would be great if God would bring us out of things without us having to do anything!  Sometimes He does just that! Miracles do happen! However, there are times when we have to do something ourselves. If we are listening to Him, and take the time to not rush into anything, He will give us strategies to follow to reach a conclusion. I am the type of person, or, I might say, WAS the type of person where I always felt as if I HAD to do something in situations that I was in. Yes, there are always times for that... However, there are also times when we have to call on Jesus and let Him do the work.  Those times are precious as we can just watch Him as He sees the situation through and takes care of it as we wait on Him.

Have you ever been in a situation when your life has been in jeopardy? Or when a quick and fearless decision has to be made? Or when all hell seems to be surrounding you, and you feel as if you cannot get out safely? It is true, sometimes we have to call on Him and sit still and let Him work. This happened when I was a child, in the 4th grade. I was on my way home from school, and a group of boys surrounded me and would not let me pass. I broke through and ran, but then fell down and could not get up again. God had just healed me of polio, and my legs needed strength. They suddenly lit matches and started throwing them at me! I cried out to God to please help me!

Suddenly a woman showed up, screamed at the boys, screamed for the police, and the boys took off!  Wow! She helped me up and I went home. I found out later that the woman told the Principal about what happened and she took care of it. I was not asked to identify the boys or say anything. It could be that the woman was a teacher or worker at the school and she knew them. Anyhow, this is just one incident in my life when God came in and rescued me.

There are times when we need to fight back!  When we are hit with things, we need to know Who we are in Christ. We need to know how to fight in Spiritual Warfare! The enemy is there, but he is already defeated so we have to remind him of that! We need to cover ourselves with our full armor every morning, and with the Blood of Jesus. He is the One who rescues us, He is the One who comes to our aid when we call out to Him!

He waits to hear from us every day, even if it is to say “Good Morning Jesus, I give You this day for Your honor and glory. Be with me and guide me, and watch over all that I do.”  There is a fight that goes on each day. It is the fight of faith. Full provision is made for us by the Cross of Calvary and the Blood that Jesus shed. Therefore we have nothing to fear. It is God’s pleasure to give us all things, and that includes provision for our safely. The enemy is already defeated! Praise God!  So, let us go about our days filled with the Presence of God, filled with faith that with Him all things are possible. God has given us the Weapons of our warfare! Our Weapon is the Word of God and the Blood of Jesus.  He is our Rock, our Fortress, and our Deliverer! Therefore what the enemy tries to do for evil, God, Who is Greater, has the last Word! His Word is true, His Word is Powerful, His Word sets us free from bondage!  Let us always remember this! Let us know who we are in Christ Jesus!  Let us always remember our Weapons of warfare;  let us memorize Scripture, and hold it in our heart.

Someone once asked me what I would do if I was stranded on a desert Island, or held captive somewhere. Would I know enough Scripture to carry me through? Would I be able to fight the enemy of my soul, and defeat the enemy who would love for me to fail and give in?  I had to search with all my heart, and then saw that I needed to be closer to God, and know His Word.  Thus began my lifelong study of God’s Word. I am not perfect, I cannot memorize everything, but I do work at it. I underline Scripture that speaks to me, and put markers in my Bible. This Bible is so worn out that it is falling apart, but I will treasure it always. I have found that every time I read a Book in the Bible, I learn something new. As we read God’s Word, let us call on the Holy Spirit to reveal something in it that we have not seen before. He will always honor that prayer, and it is amazing how suddenly a Scripture comes into focus, and suddenly how it has greater meaning to us. Praise God! So exciting! This Fall let us make it our priority to begin reading the Bible through. Mark it up, put dates in it, underline Words that pop out to you. Someday you will look back and realize how God has spoken a Word in Season to you at that time, and that is just so very encouraging!  As we begin to focus on Fall, with the leaves turning beautiful colors, let us remind ourselves of the Greatness of God and how He has worked out all of creation so beautifully, including our lives. God bless you!
